Fuel-station managers should organise responses to snow accumulation around station operating requirements and the canopy maintenance plan. If there is obvious sagging, ponding, damage or unusual noise, control use of the affected area and seek professional inspection.
Check areas affecting operation and circulation
From a safe position, record concentrated snow, roof form and the area affected by falling snow. Consider entrances, vehicle stopping points and equipment below. Include separation of people and vehicles in the response rather than focusing only on moving snow off the roof.
Do not improvise snow-melting methods
Chemical de-icers, direct heating, washing with water and shovelling from the membrane can introduce material, loading or work risks. The station and maintenance provider should agree methods from material documents and site conditions, rather than applying road-clearing methods to the canopy.
Confirm conditions before reopening
Check for changes in membranes, edges, steelwork and drainage, with further assessment where needed. Finished clearing does not establish that the structure and equipment are normal. Follow project and station procedures before restoring use.
