CARPORT GUIDE

One-sided forms and rods

Round-tube membrane carport

A curved round-tube beam and offset column form a one-sided canopy whose tube and joint details matter.

FORM & FUNCTION

What this form means

Here the round-tube form means a tubular frame, not merely swapping a 7-shaped beam for a pipe. Its curved main member, column connection and short rear projection create the elevation. Membrane fixing, tube diameter and wall thickness still require a span, load and fabrication design.

SITE FIT

Where it fits

Single-row bays with a one-sided foundation strip where a tubular roof line suits the site.

DESIGN CHECKS

What to check in design

Check beam curvature, beam-to-column joints, corrosion protection inside and outside the tube, membrane clamps and drainage edges. Detail welds and maintenance access for closed sections.

COMPARE OPTIONS

How it differs from neighbours

Compared with the square-tube form, the section, joints and visual line differ. A 7-shaped tapered beam is also not priced from silhouette alone.

QUESTION & ANSWER

A common planning question

Does a round-tube frame always use less steel?

The appearance cannot establish that. Compare sections, joints and total quantities at the same span, load, membrane, column grid and corrosion scope.
